Why climate change is much more than just a tale
There is more than enough evidence to say that climate change is real and dangerous. Polar ice sheets are melting. The Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) clearly stated in its Assessment Report 5 the negative impact of climate for our modern society. Here I describe not only the climatological and ecological impact of warmer temperatures in Polar Regions and their vulnerability to climate change but also the geopolitical consequences of global warming. Anthropogenic climate change won’t make the world is safer place but the opposite is true. Beside the negative impact for our entire climate system, melting arctic ice sheets for example enable the excavation of natural resources and reveal new shipping routes. This enables new business opportunities but uncovers a cascade of new potential conflicts between neighbouring states.
