Potentials of Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation for Machines and Plants

Shorter product life cycles force machine builders to shorten their set-up of the machines. Especially the diagnosis of control programs and the test of malfunctions are most often not part of the set-up because of lack of time. However, the optimization of machines for the reduction of cycle time most often is done during production time.

According to those issues, the Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation offers enormous potentials, which allow the user to work on the mentioned tasks before set-up.

This paper provides an overview about the known benefits of HiL-Simulation and describes some future potentials of the technology.
